Sandra M. Remey, M.A., A.P.R. - President

Sandra M. Remey, M.A., A.P.R. is president of Remey Communicationsand has been helping a wide range of organizations to meet their business goals for more than 25 years, including Fortune 500 companies and national and local non-profits. Remey focuses on results: increases in brand awareness, greater visibility in the media, boosts in advocacy-related outcomes, partnership building, increases in web traffic, innovative marketing and public relations strategies, changes in audience perceptions, and measureable results. Her reputation as an effective strategist and leader has made her a sought-after counselor. She is the recipient of numerous awards for her work, and has authored articles on effective communications. 

Prior to launching Remey Communications, LLC in 1987, Remey spent six years heading communications in the Washington, DC, office of the American Academy of Ophthalmology where she developed strategies to improve the image of the association among its members. Through her public relations expertise, Ms. Remey achieved this improvement, which resulted in a marked increase in satisfaction and value among Academy members, documented by both qualitative and quantitative research. Also during her tenure, Ms. Remey achieved measureable increases in attendance at the Academy’s annual Advocacy Day (lobby day), as well as a dramatic boost in media coverage, among other accomplishments.

Remey’s career also includes key communication positions in corporations, non-profits and at Ogilvy Worldwide public affairs agency.

Remey has helped an array of clients in different industries to meet their business goals. This includes helping hospitals to increase their patient base and the number of physicians with practice privileges, training company spokespeople to effectively speak with the media and their state and federal legislators, educating association members on the importance of donating to their PAC, helping to fill hotel rooms in the hospitality industry, working with executives in the technology industry to effectively communicate both inside and outside their global organization, and helping leading organizations in the senior living industry to fill their communities. Client highlights include: Cisco Systems, Marriott International, Asbury Communities, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the National Association of Eye and Vision Research, the American College of Emergency Physicians, and the Society for Nuclear Cardiology, Apple Federal Credit Union, National Capital Bank of Washington, and others.

Ms. Remey earned an M.A. in Public Communication from The American University and a B.S. in Journalism from The University of Maryland. She is a member of the Public Relations Society of America and holds the coveted A.P.R. accreditation. She also sits on the board of the Independent PR Alliance and is the outgoing chair. Ms. Remey was recently a speaker at the annual Public Relations Society of America’s International Conference.
